Biller Invoices and Payments

How Does Our Solution Help with Invoices and Payments?

Businesses spend a good deal of time and money collecting payment from the customers they serve, including creating invoices, handling and processing incoming payments, posting payments to their internal accounting system, and analyzing incoming payment information to improve the overall effectiveness of their processes.

JHA SmartPay Biller Express™ can help businesses by automating much of the collection process, including:

  • Setting Up Payers - Biller Express allows the business (or the payer themselves) to register themselves, optionally store their payment account information, and set up recurring payments.

  • Accepting Payments - The main purpose of Biller Express is to provide a business-branded online payment page through which end users can pay the business. The site accepts ACH payments, credit and debit cards, and PayPal®.

  • Invoicing - While Biller Express cannot create paper invoices, it can send email notifications to let customers know payment is due. The notifications can even include a link to the payment site described below.

  • Handling and Processing Payments - Biller Express processes all payments made through the site, directing payments to the appropriate rail or delivery channel.

  • Generating Payment Files for Posting - Biller Express can also generate payment files that can be loaded into the business's accounting system to post payments to the appropriate customer accounts.

  • Analyzing Payment Data - As part of the JHA SmartPay Business™ suite, Biller Express allows financial institutions to analyze transactions through SmartSight®, its data analysis engine.

How Does Biller Express Work?

You can think of the Biller Express process as a loop:

  1. The biller sends an invoice and/or a payment due notification to their customer.

  2. The customer follows directions on the invoice or clicks the link on the payment due notification to access the payment site and initiate their payment.

  3. The Biller Express system processes the payment and sends it via the appropriate rail to the next downstream processing entity.

  4. The funds reach the biller's financial institution.

  5. The biller’s financial institution posts the funds to the biller’s account.

Integration Options

Because Biller Express is designed to accept payments directly from the payer, payments cannot be submitted through an API. (If you collect payments another way and want to submit them to our system through an API, return to the use case page and select the appropriate use case for the payment type you wish to process.) Even so, there are other integration options that can help you manage Biller Direct payments, receive notifications, validate accounts, or analyze incoming payments.

  • Run Transaction Reports - Use our Transaction Reporting API to pull back transaction data that meets the criteria you submit. You can pull data for the current day or historical transaction information from a custom range of dates you supply.

  • Monitor Transactions with JHA SmartWatch™ - SmartWatch is a web push API that sends an update every time a new transaction is created or the status of a previously submitted transaction changes. You can use SmartWatch to ensure that transaction information on your system stays in sync with transaction data in Biller Express.

  • Validate Transactions with JHA SmartDetect™ - You can enable SmartDetect to validate account numbers automatically as part of the Biller Direct processing steps. In addition, you can make a direct call from your system to ours to validate account numbers prior to accepting transactions from other sources.

  • Analyze Transaction Data with SmartSight - SmartSight is the Biller Express data analytics tool that helps you derive actionable insights from historical transaction data. SmartSight provides context to large data sets and gives you the information you need to drive more effective marketing decisions and police activity-based risk.
