Commercial Remote Deposit

What is Remote Deposit Capture?

In October of 2004, the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check21) opened the doors for financial institutions to accept an image of a check for deposit instead of the actual paper item. This change paved the way for businesses to skip the drive to the bank and use a desktop scanner (or even a mobile device) to capture checks and make online deposits.

We provide remote deposit capture (RDC) products in both our SmartPay and Ensenta solutions. Both platforms offer traditional desktop RDC, where our online application drives a locally connected or network scanner housed at the business, and mobile RDC, where a business user captures check images with a mobile device. For every solution, our platform receives the check image, verifies the account number and amount, confirms the endorsement, evaluates the risk associated with the item, processes the deposit, and preps it for posting to the financial institution's core system.

SmartPay Commercial Remote Deposit Solutions

We offer three different RDC options on our SmartPay platform: JHA SmartPay Remote Deposit Complete™ (RDC), JHA SmartPay Remote Deposit Now™ (RDN), and JHA SmartPay mRDC™(Mobile Remote Deposit Complete). Financial institutions and other integrators deploy all three solutions to meet the varied needs of their commercial account holders.

  • SmartPay Remote Deposit Complete (RDC) supports traditional remote deposit where images are captured via a supported check scanning device connected to a laptop or desktop computer using our hosted online solution, JHA SmartPay Business™. This is a single sign-on (SSO) solution that allows you to automatically pass authenticated users from your system into SmartPay Business. This solution supports multiple user login credentials, both a single or multi-check deposit, allows for data entry with each check, and deposit routing to different accounts. RDC's embedded security controls, duplicate detection, and velocity limits help fight fraud and block illicit transactions. With SmartPay RDC, deposit proofing and repairing is performed by our staff, minimizing effort and limiting risk for the depositing organization. As part of a full-featured commercial payments platform, SmartPay Business also offers ACH origination, card payments, reporting, risk review tools, and more. Businesses needing high-volume check scanning capability, with multiple locations, and requiring detailed reporting for each location would benefit from this solution.

  • SmartPay Remote Deposit Now (RDN) is similar to SmartPay RDC, but there are important differences. Like RDC, RDN is a single sign-on (SSO) solution that allows you to automatically pass authenticated users from your system into SmartPay Business Remote Deposit Now. RDN also has robust security, duplicate detection, velocity limits, and other fraud prevention measures. Unlike RDC, RDN allows businesses to review and repair their own captured deposits. While this can increase the risk of fraud, it is also a highly requested feature by end users who prefer to balance their own work.

  • SmartPay Mobile Remote Deposit Capture (mRDC) helps businesses by processing checks captured using a mobile device. By integrating to the SmartPay mRDC API, you can embed remote deposit in your company's mobile app. Using the SmartPay mRDC API, you will create a deposit and add one or more checks to the deposit. The mobile version of SmartPay RDC, the solution supports multiple business user credentials, both a single or multi check deposit, data entry with each check, and deposit routing to different accounts. RDC's embedded security controls, duplicate detection, and velocity limits help fight fraud and block illicit transactions. Checks submitted through the SmartPay mRDC API are processed through a check image verification and sent to the SmartPay RDC backend service for processing. This backend service is the same used for the desktop version of SmartPay RDC, thus it shares additional risk management functionality with SmartPay RDC to streamline operations and system management. When you submit a deposit through the SmartPay mRDC API, your system receives a response right away, so you can update the user in the mobile app and let them know whether their deposit was accepted or rejected.

EPS Ensenta Commercial Remote Deposit Solutions

The EPS Ensenta solution suite offers two commercial remote deposit options: Ensenta Business Remote Deposit Capture™ (bRDC) and Ensenta Business Mobile™. Financial institutions and other integrators deploy both solutions to meet the varied needs of their commercial account holders.

  • Ensenta Business Remote Deposit Capture (bRDC) is a streamlined remote deposit solution for small-to-medium sized businesses. It too is a single sign-on (SSO) solution that allows an authenticated user in your solution to be redirected and authenticated in the Ensenta bRDC application. Because bRDC leverages Ensenta's industry leading risk management tools, it also makes it easier for banks and credit unions to identify and reject fraudulent deposits. bRDC has the option to include a real-time connection to Early Warning® Services to further vet the item being deposited and the account on which it is drawn. Additional features such as real-time posting to the financial institution's core system and holds on deposits may be an option.

  • Ensenta Business Mobile is the platform's solution for mobile deposits made to business accounts. By integrating to Ensenta's mobile API, you can embed remote deposit in your company's mobile app. The solutions supports both a single or multi-check deposit. Ensenta Business Mobile also leverages our industry-leading risk management functionality, which analyzes the depositor's behavior, the item being deposited, and an option for a real-time connection to Early Warning Services to analyze the account on which the deposited item is drawn. (Additional risk management functionality is available through connections to solutions like Verafin.) When you submit a deposit through the API, your system receives a response right away so you can update the user in the mobile app and let them know whether their deposit was accepted or rejected.

Other Tools and Resources

These topics may prove helpful if you are considering integration with our commercial remote deposit applications:

  • Reporting - The SmartPay Remote Deposit Reporting API and SmartPay Transaction Reporting API allow you to pull back current day or historical deposit and transaction data through report requests. These reports can contain summary and/or detailed information related to deposits and transactions that meet the criteria you present.

  • Notifications - SmartPay offers SmartWatch, a web hook API that provides pre-configured push notifications whenever the status of a previously submitted transaction changes. Smart Alerts serve the same push notification function for EPS Ensenta products.

  • Data Analytics - Monitoring the macro view of your mobile deposit program is easier with SmartSight®, our data analysis and business intelligence (BI) application. SmartSight provides aggregated and summarized historical data for SmartPay and EPS Ensenta platforms. You can leverage this data to create or incorporate into your own front end analysis tool.
