What is JHA SmartWatch?

JHA SmartWatch, a service provided by Enterprise Payment Solutions (EPS), is a webhooks, or push API, that supports JHA SmartPay Platform TM products. Webhooks are automated messages sent from a system when an event occurs on that system, in this case, the EPS system. Integrators who receive these notifications can turn them into communications and reporting for a financial institution or a business. This technology is very efficient, since EPS sends the integrator a notice when a transaction has changed in status, and the integrator no longer has to poll the EPS system after submitting a transaction. As the recipient of these events, the integrator can use this information to create emails or SMS messages to send to the financial institution's or the business's customers, or for creating reports or executing batch jobs.

For what products and events can SmartWatch updates be received?

EPS offers updates on changes in status for JHA SmartPay ACH, card, and remote deposit transactions. EPS reports statuses such as approved, declined, suspended, charged back, cleared, batched, RTP error, unauthorized, reversed, refunded, and many more, depending on the EPS product. Each financial institution or business should work with its integrator to ensure that it is receiving the right information for its use case.

How soon after a transaction is processed should the customer/member expect to receive a notification?

EPS will send SmartWatch messages to integrators, in most instances, within a few minutes of an event occurring in the system. During certain times, messages may take longer depending on activity volume.

Integrators will be responsible for turning the SmartWatch messages they receive into notifications to the end user, if desired. Please consult with your integrator for more specifics about end user notifications.

For Financial Institutions and Businesses

What is an integrator?

An integrator is the company that performs the technology work to send or receive data directly to and from the EPS system. In some cases, the integrator may be a mobile banking company; in other cases, it may be an integrated service provider, or ISP.

As an example, if you're with a financial institution that uses JHA SmartPay Remote Deposit AnywhereTM (RDA) integrated into your consumer banking app, your integrator is your mobile banking partner.

Please note that if you use the RDA or JHA SmartPay mRDCTM standalone apps, EPS is not the integrator. To leverage the SmartWatch product, an integrator would be required.

How can our financial institution or business subscribe to JHA SmartWatch?

The first step is to ensure that your mobile banking partner or integrator has integrated to SmartWatch. Once that integration is complete, the financial institution or business can contact their EPS sales representative to request the service and to sign a contract addendum for SmartWatch.

If the integrator has not integrated to SmartWatch, the financial institution or business should talk to its integrator and request that the integrator complete the SmartWatch integration. Once this is complete, the financial institution or business can contact their EPS sales representative to request SmartWatch and sign a contract addendum for it.

When will our financial institution or business begin to receive transaction event data?

This is dependent on the integrator, since the integrator is the party receiving these updates from EPS about JHA SmartPay transactions. Please work with your integrator to develop a timeline and start date.

Who does our financial institution or business contact if customers/members are not receiving their notifications?

Please contact your integrator first and inform them of the situation to research and understand the issue(s). If the problem lies outside of the integrator's control, it may be necessary for the financial institution or business and the integrator to work with EPS to troubleshoot the situation.

For Integrators

What’s the first step that an integrator needs to take in order to integrate to JHA SmartWatch?

Please visit jackhenry.com/payments, contact us at payments@jackhenry.com, or contact your Sales associate to learn more about the SmartWatch service or to request this new product.

What information does EPS need from the integrator to configure JHA SmartWatch?

The EPS technical point of contact will guide the integrator through the process of filling out the required information for JHA SmartPay products in the JHA SmartWatch Setup Form that is in the SmartWatch section of the Downloads tab. Based on the information the integrator provides in the setup form, EPS will configure and create a "subscription" or list of events where it wants to receive updates.

Is authentication required to access the JHA SmartWatch service?

The JHA SmartWatch service does not require authentication. However, EPS has added the following extra security features to this service:

  • Valid certificate required
  • HTTPS required when the service is set to active mode
  • Large secret token that increases hashing results

What happens when a subscriber's certificate expires?

EPS sends an email notification to the integrator when any changes have occurred to the certificate, such as when the certificate date is expiring.

What happens when messages cannot be delivered to the integrator?

When a high percentage of messages cannot be delivered to their endpoint over the past hour, the EPS system sends an email alert notification to the integrator's email address that was established during integration.
